Maths summer course

RSE will be running our Summer Maths Bridging Course over the summer break, beginning in January 2019, with classes from 09:00 to 13:30 on the following dates:

  • Week 1: Monday 7, Wednesday 9, Friday 11, January 2019
  • Week 2: Monday 14, Tuesday 15, Thursday 17, Friday 18, January 2019
  • Week 3: Monday 21, Wednesday 23, Friday 25, January 2019
  • Week 4: Tuesday 29, Wednesday 30, January, Friday 1, February 2019

Please be aware that this course will not appear on your academic record, and is ineligible to be counted as credit towards any ANU award or non-award program.

Course description

This is an overview of the basic mathematical techniques for understanding and successfully completing graduate course-work in economics at The Australian National University. The course is targeted towards incoming doctoral students with minimal college-level mathematics. This course will explain and review the mathematical techniques most relevant for economic analysis and economic understanding. It will build up to optimization, the cornerstone of modern economics, in a coherent manner, with the ultimate objective being the ability to use appropriate techniques to solve optimization problems.
